You really have to bargain in Ben Thanh Market as it is a market well known here for tourists due to the range of souvenirs.
The prices for the items that are being sold in the market are all overpriced. There are the tourists who are willing to pay for the overpriced items and the ones like us who will bargain. It is hard earned money regardless of the amount after all.
The shop owners will quote you a price that is always too high.
Bargain with them a price that is at least 50% less than what they offer you. They will hesitate most of the time and during this time just walk away. Most of the time they will just call you back and "ok ok (whatever amount you offered)".
Of course, there are also the rude shop owners who will rather not sell the item than to sell it at a lower price.
